This is my third Yes concert in this Open Your Eyes tour. This show was presented to surround sound system (only in some songs, Close To the Edge).
And this is my first time seeing Alan Parsons Project. APP used to play in San Fransisco at the Warfield theater but I missed that show because it was during the final week of the semester. APP opened and played just for an hour. They did not play a lot of old stuff, so the only one song I can remember is "Eye in the Sky". The rest was new material which I'm not familiar with.
I decided to get the ticket for this show just 2 days before, so I only got the lawn ticket. That's okay. Concord Pavilion is the nicest place I have ever been to for concerts. It's quite big and the sound system is really good. I was wondering how can they set the surround-sound system work for the lawn area because most of speakers were set in the roof area. The crowd was pretty big for tonight. There was only one show in the Bay Area for this leg of the tour.
The setlist from what I remember (not in order):
They removed 'Soon' and 'Revealing Science of God' from the song list. I do not remember what they had for the encore. It's been a long time since I saw the show. I didn't have time to write down the review for months.
Jon Anderson still sounded great to me. Chris Squire had a lot of fun showing his bass solo on "The Fish". I have never seen Yes with Bruford or Wakeman before. I wish I could have seen the Union tour.
One thing I noticed was Billy Sherwood's playing. I RARELY heard of what he played. It's hard to say what part of guitay he played because Howe's playing almost coved the whole thing. Oh..except on "Owner of a lonely heart" that Billy did show some guitar solo but that's just a very few.
There were things for sale at the show, such as t-shirts (new and old designs), tour books (new design), pins, scoffee mugs, etc.
At least I had a happy night at the show since I always feel good at any prog shows.
