JETHRO TULL with ELP
Concord Pavilion, Concord
Sep 24, 1996

Here is my review of the Jethro tull / ELP show at the Concord Pavilion.

I & my friend arrived to Concord at 8.00 pm. When we were on the bus that took people from the BART station to the Concord Pavilion, all people are Tull fans you know. They said "everybody 1 2 3 Jethro Tull! Jethro Tull! Jethro Tull! (I thought if I say ELP I do not know what would happen to me, so just thought).

By the time we got there (checking the tickets), ELP starts on time! We ran because it's very big place and very far from the enter and we sat on row G (pretty close). There are 6 big monitors there. I did not know what's the 1st song they play

Setlist from what I remember (not in order):

(might be 1st impression but not 3rd impression)

and a couple songs but I forgot the name.....Palmer solo (very good & very strong), Emerson solo..very exciting and pretty fast he laid down on the floor and pulling it down on his stomach and playing it backwards and puting a knife on the keyboards and jumping over it, using his feet to play organ. Sometimes I saw he shook his hands like he hurt.

ENCORE

  • Fanfare For The Common Man

Emerson was very skinny, Lake was pretty big (I think his voice was terrific), Palmer looked strongest and youngest.

ELP played almost an hour with no laser, just plain lighting but very good show that's enough for me.

    Then Jethro Tull came out.

    The setlist:

    • Agualung
    • Nothing Is Easy
    • Locomotive Breath
    • Thick As A Brick
    • Song From The Woods
    • Cross-Eye Mary
    • My God
    • Beside Myself
    • Dangerous Veils
  • and some mroe....

Ian's voice was now a bit down, the group has electronically enhanced his perfromance. He tries desperately to hit a note, but could not. He sounded very tired, he also used microphone-headphone. I like Martin's guitar sound, he did advertise his solo album "The Meeting". at the show, too. The bass player who I forget the name ws very young if compare ot the rest of the band.

I bought a "Tarkus" t-shirt. It's very nice. I talked to a guy who sat next to me who also saw the King Crimson atthe Greek Theater in July (the same show of mine), and he said after seeing KC concert. He can't compare any show with the KC's show anymore, it's unbelievable! I DO think so.
