This is my second time seeing Metallica live. The first time was in 1992 in Bangkok, Thailand. It was a killer show (3 hours non-stop!) And it was the first time Metallica played in Thailand.
I decided to see them again at the Cow Palace because I had a friend to go with. We arrived at the Cow Palace around 6 p.m. Most people were around 12-45 years old I guess. Korn started at 7 p.m. (on time). I did not want to see Korn at all but I think I have seen them as an openng act for about 3 times now. I don't like Korn's music, and their sound was so muddy. Korn played just 30 mins. What a boring band!
Break time for setting stuff for Metallica. I forgot to mention that there were 2 stages for this show. The double stage was in the center. People could sit surround it in an "O" shape. Metallica started around 8:30 p.m.
The rough setlist from what I remember.
I could not remember all songs they played though. It's a long time ago since I saw the show.
They came back with...
There was a made-up accident during the encore. I mean some problem with the electric on the left stage and a guy was burned. He was sent to the hospital. For this point I think they planed it before. They planed everything because I saw Kirk ran from the left stage to the right stage while Lars was playing on the right stage. There were 2 drum sets in this show, for both stages.
The good idea for this show was all people who sat surround the stage could see the whole band. They tried to switch from left to right. They divided by having 2 members on each stage at a time.
I think I like this show. James' singing was pretty good. Metallica is still a good band even though I don't like their Load And Reload stuff at all. I don't want them to try to sound the same but maybe better? More creative? Well, I hope so much I guess. Metallica played just 2 hours for this show.
Not many people moshed tonight. A lot of smokers sitting around me, I mean just cigarettes that's okay to me because I don't smoke. A guy was hit by a guard because he jumped up and danced on stage with the band. And it was so hot in the Cow Palace. I bought a white t-shirt which had cartoon character of all four members on the front and the back. The tix were not sold out for tonight. That's weird. But there're a lot of big bands playing at this time of the year anyway. Metallica is going to have one more show at San Jose Arena tomorrow night.
I'm not sure if Metallica has a show again in San Francisco I will go to see them or not. If they play a bunch of songs from Load and Reload I might walk out of the hall.
