KING CRIMSON w/ Wild Colonials
Greek Theatre, Berkeley
July 23, 1996
The new logo from the double trio era.
The opening band was Wild Colonials from North Ireland (now they play in LA). This band had a female vocalist and she dressed like a hippie, but the music was kind of normal to me, not that interesting. This band had a violin player. They played from 8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. I saw people walked around and ate when they played. Only a few people including me paid attention to them.
At 8:45, King Crimson came out. You know Fripp just sat in the back and he did not move much.
Here is the setlist:
- Thela Hunn Ginjeet (Levin used his "Funk Fingers" during this)
- Red
- Dinosaur
- One Time
- Three Of A Perfect Pair
- Magical Mystery Soundscape
- B'Boom
- THRAK
- Neurotica
(I've never thought they would play this song in this show.)
- Waiting Man
- 21st Century Schizoid Man
(I could not believe they did this! Everybody stood up and applauded. Very impressive! Belew said this song had not been played in San Francisco before. I know that they never played it in their shows in the last 2-3 years.) Belew's voice was a little bit higher than Greg Lake's.
- The Sheltering Sky
- Elephant Talk
- Sex Sleep Eat Drink Dream
- Indiscipline
- Drum Trio
FIRST ENCORE
- Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part II
SECOND ENCORE
- VROOOM (great improvisation)
They finished about 10:30 p.m. Everybody stood up and applauded. Nobody wanted to leave but the lights were turned on. Noone could forget this show!
